Spring school “EU GREEN DEAL: CURRENT CHALLENGES AND FUTURE PERSPECTIVES ON THE WAY TO CLIMATE NEUTRALITY” (16-17.04.2024, online)
On 16-17 April, 2024, the spring school “EU green deal: current challenges and future perspectives on the way to climate neutrality” was held in online format. The event was organised by Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University together with Sumy National Agrarian University with the participation of the Association of Researchers of European Values in Education, Sumy Territorial Community, Sumy Business School and with the support of the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine (EU funded project) as part of the implementation of the EU Erasmus+ Programme Jean Monnet project Centre of Excellence “European Studies of Social Innovation in Education” – Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence ESSIE – 101085552 – ERASMUS-JMO-2022-COE.
The purpose of this event is the formation of a deep knowledge base about the EU policy on climate change prevention, adaptation and mitigation (which can be used in everyday life and at various stages of professional activity and decision-making), the European level of environmental values, competence and behaviour.
More than 90 participants from various universities and cities of Ukraine joined the event: academic staff and scientists, representatives of public organisations, students and other stakeholders.
The representative of the National Erasmus+ office in Ukraine (EU funded project), Petro KRAINIK, at the opening of the School, noted the peculiarities and importance of implementing the school’s themes within the framework of the Jean Monnet projects in the conditions of full-scale aggression and russia’s war against Ukraine, about the importance of disseminating the knowledge and values of the EU Green Deal, working in in the context of the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, about the social impact and value of Jean Monnet projects in the educational environment, about synergy with other similar projects and the role of Jean Monnet projects in international cooperation on the way to the European integration of Ukraine.
During the event, presentations were made by Maria NESTEROVA – doctor, professor, head of the Centre for European Studies of Social Innovations in Education, Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University (Kyiv, Ukraine), Olena MELNYK – doctor, senior researcher of the Climate Policy Laboratory, ETH Zurich (Zurich, Switzerland). , Associate Professor, Sumy National Agrarian University (Sumy, Ukraine), Honorary Professor of the Royal Agrarian University (Cirencester, England), Maryna DELINI – Doctor, Professor, Professor of the Department of Production and Investment Management, NUBiP (Kyiv, Ukraine), Svitlana LUKASH – Doctor, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Management and Administration, Sumy National Agrarian University (Sumy, Ukraine) and others. Speakers focused on such topical issues as: green restoration of Ukraine in the focus of the EU Green Deal, the role of social innovation education in the formation of competencies for sustainable development and development of communities, peculiarities of planning energy and climate development of the territorial community, etc.
During the event, the participants got acquainted with the European experience of supporting environmental security in the context of climate change and the possibility of using its elements in Ukraine and the system of European climate policy and education.
